Bunny Treats

Years ago, Cooper and I were included in the Chinese New Years tradition of sending red envelopes to loved ones. Our friend Natasha and her husband made bunny treats for their two girls (RIP) and sent Cooper a few pieces in his red envelope. He immediately took one treat and ran away with it, not realizing he dropped half of it on his mad dash.

Natasha and her husband shared their simple yet amazing recipe with us to share with all of you!

We hope your bunnies enjoy the homemade treats too!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup of pellets soften with hot water
  • 1 cup of kale
  • 3/4 cup of organic canned pumpkin (Pumpkin can be substituted with a whole banana)
  • 6 grated baby carrots
Instructions
  • Preheat oven at 180 degrees
  • Puree the organic canned pumpkin (or banana) with the kale and mix with the softer pellets. This will make sugar-like cookie dough, you can add more pumpkin or nana if the mix seems a bit dry.
  • Add the 6 grated baby carrots to the mix by hand. You can now make them into any shape you like or you can roll out and cut into squares on parchment paper. Natasha suggests using a pizza cutter if you’re making them into squares.
  • Natasha and her husband bake their bunny treats at 180 degrees for 4-5 hours, but you can use your judgment and adjust the temp and time. Trial & error, that’s what I say!

Most recently, referring to 2024, I’ve been purchasing a lot of treats and forages from The Well Kept Rabbit. I love the variety that they have, and each treat, forage, nibble has a nutritional purpose.

In January 2024 MINI became ill. X-rays revealed that she has calcium growths in her nasal cavity. Meaning she’s prone to respiratory infections and needs saline nebulizer sessions every day. The Well Kept Rabbit has a few options to help build her immune system and help her immune system with all natural ingredients. I’ve been purchasing a lot of their herbal forages and herbal poppers. Check them out, I’m sure you’ll like them as much as we do!

If you’re not the baker type, cough, cough, you can always purchase some great treats online. I try to buy local so I’ve been purchasing treats for MIN from Koda The Little Bunny, they are local to the Orlando and they sell the most adorable bunny treats. Check them out!

But if you’re looking for a different alternative to treats, your rabbit will probably enjoy munching on fresh grass!

For a few years I was purchasing DoggieLawn for Cooper to munch on. Not until July of 2022 did I learn that the creators of DoggieLawn came out with a BunnyLawn product. So what did I do? I ordered it for MINI!
